Want to know how to live a non toxic life and start thirving? This is everything you need to know about non toxic living.
I know you might be feeling a little overwhelmed when figuring out how to live a non toxic life. Trust me, I transitioned to a non toxic lifestyle over 3 years ago, so I get it!
As a holistic esthetician, I am really adamant about non toxic living because it affects everything, including our skin.
I wish I had this guide when I first started my non toxic journey, but I’m happy I can make it for you so you don’t have to feel as confused or overwhelmed as I did when I first transitioned!
Also, an important thing to remember is to transition slowly. Implement one non toxic swap at a time and it will make the process so much easier.
This post is all about how to live a non toxic life.

Stop Using Conventional Cleaning Products
You’re gonna wanna throw away all of your Clorox, bleach, Tilex, Dawn dish soap, and other conventional cleaning products because they are making you sick.
They are going to disrupt your hormones, they’re linked to cancer and infertility, and so many more terrible issues.
You can get an even better clean using non toxic products such as baking soda, vinegar, and my favorite brand Truly Free. They have so many great non toxic cleaning products that actually work and also smell amazing because they’re made with essential oils. I highly recommend them for all of your cleaning needs!
Switch To Organic Cotton
Polyester is an endocrine disrupter and also not comfortable at all compared to organic cotton. Switch your towels, bedding, clothes, socks, and underwear to organic cotton.
When I switched everything to organic cotton, I stopped having night sweats because my skin could actually BREATHE. I would have horrible night sweats every single night, then I switched all of my bedding and clothes, and it was the best thing ever.
A great brand I use and recommend is Pact. They have everything from clothing to bedding, so you’ll find everything you need!
Swap Your Conventional Laundry Products
There are only two things you need for non toxic laundry: Truly Free detergent and borax.
You don’t need Shout, Tide, or smelly dryer sheets. Talk about a headache, my head hurts just thinking about all of those artificial smells😂
Truly Free is made from completely natural ingredients and has essential oils so that your clothes still smell fresh and clean without the artificial fragrances. And borox keeps your clothes stain-free and bright. It’s the best laundry duo ever😍
Don’t Drink Tap Water
If you go down the rabbit hole of what’s actually in our tap water, it is so disgusting. The fluoride alone was enough for me to quit drinking it.
Tap water contains so many chemicals and heavy metals that humans are never meant to consume, so it’s best to either drink spring water or get a reverse osmosis water filter from Aqua Tru.
I do both depending on my situation. If I’m at home, I just grab water from my Aqua Tru container. If I’m out and I don’t have access to filtered water, I buy spring water, preferably Mountain Valley spring water.
Cook With Stainless Steel Or A Cast Iron
Most cookware contains harmful chemicals and heavy metals that get on our food and, therefore, in our bodies when we eat it.
A lot of these chemicals are called “forever chemicals” because they stay in your body forever. They literally don’t break down.😳
I use both in my kitchen and love them! Also, if you take good care of them, they last forever.
Throw Out All Plastic
Get rid of your plastic cups, bowls, cutting boards, plates, toothbrushes, etc. The less plastic you come into contact with, the better.
Microplastics are connected to an array of health issues, including neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, heart attacks, infertility, and so much more.
If you can avoid it, you’re going to be so much better off. Use glass cups, bowls, and storage containers. Use bamboo toothbrushes, wooden cutting boards, and stainless steel cookware.
There are so many good plastic-free alternatives out there, so you can start ditching the plastic!

Avoid Fragrance
I know this is hard for a lot of people, but if you wear perfume, light candles, or have anything else that contains fragrance, you’ll want to get rid of it.
Frangrance causes hormone disruption and it’s even linked to cancer.
Once I stopped using artificial fragrance, I actually became averse to things like Glade plug-ins, laundry scent boosters, perfumes, etc.
What you can use instead are good-quality essential oils. You can diffuse them throughout your home, wear them as perfume, put them in your laundry, and so much more!
I love these from Pranarōm because they are affordable but super high quality!
Remove Yourself From Toxic Environments And People
This one might be a little shocking because when we think about non toxic living, we mostly think about products, not people or situations.
This is one of the most important things about living a non toxic lifestyle. You can have the cleanest products, eat super healthy, get great sleep, do everything “right,” but if you surround yourself with toxic people who bring you down and make you feel like 💩, you’re not going to be able to achieve optimal health.
I used to surround myself with toxic people, and I would get into bad situations.
I always felt this heavy weight pulling me down. I couldn’t fully shine, and the light within me was always dim.
Even if I ate healthy, exercised, and did everything “right,” it was never enough.
Now that I’m in a much better place surrounded by good people (and my cats hehe), I feel lighter and more hopeful in my everyday life.
The people you surround yourself with truly matter, so if I were you, I would take this step seriously and really evaluate the environment you’ve created for yourself and see if you need to start making some positive changes.
I know it can be really hard and you might feel stuck, but once you let go and start creating a positive environment for yourself, you’re going to be so much happier!
