Olive Oil Cleansing
The History of Olive Oil in Skincare
Olive oil has been used for thousands of years for various purposes. We know how great it is in the kitchen, but it’s also a powerful ingredient in skincare.
Before soap was invented, people would use oil to clean themselves. Oil is excellent for deeply cleansing the skin.
Cleopatra was known for her incredible beauty routines, and cleansing with olive oil was one of them.

How to Cleanse with Olive Oil
There are a couple different ways you can cleanse with olive oil:
1) You can use the oil cleansing method that I walk you through in this post. Basically, you apply olive oil to a damp cotton round and gently rub it in circular motions over your face, neck, and chest. No need to rinse the skin afterward.
2) You can also apply olive oil straight to your skin and massage it in. Then take a cloth, wet it under warm water, ring it out, and wipe the oil from your skin.
3) *Optional* After cleansing your skin, you can spray rose water or any other facial toner. Then, add more olive oil to your skin for extra hydration and moisture.
My Results After A Week Of Olive Oil Cleansing
For my one week of olive oil cleansing, I didn’t do anything else to my skin besides some facial yoga and facial reflexology.
There was one day I put a zinc balm on my face while I was at the beach for 45 minutes, but that was it. I don’t think it affected the results. I didn’t use any other products or tools on my face because I wanted to make sure any change I was seeing was from the olive oil.
This was my skin right before I started olive oil cleansing:
This was my skin after just one week of cleansing with olive oil:
As you can see my acne lessened and my redness improved. My skin also felt very calm and soft.
Olive oil is great for those with very dry skin. My skin always felt moisturized and balanced, but if you are someone who is very oily, then this oil might be too heavy.
I was super surprised at the results just after one week of using olive oil. I am definitely going to keep using it!
I was nervous it was going to break me out since it is a thicker oil, but it did the complete opposite! It actually improved my acne.
These are just my results and everyone’s skin will react differently. Although olive oil worked great for my skin, it may not be a good match for your skin. It never hurts to try, though! I love trying new skincare and this was a great experiment.
