Step 1: Know Your Why
The first step to transitioning to the animal-based diet is to know your why.
Why are you even doing this diet?
Are you doing it to heal your gut? Are you doing it to lose or gain weight?
Get to the root of your why.
Once you know why you’re doing this, it will be so much easier to make the transition!
And I know this step may be tempting to skip, but it’s actually the most important.
Knowing you’re why helps keep you centered and grounded. It will help reel you back in when you’re feeling doubtful or facing temptations.
There were times when I was transitioning where I would want to cave and eat something like chocolate or pizza. Then I remembered my why, and it helped put everything into perspective.
Eating those foods would have brought me temporary pleasure, but then I would have gotten cystic pimples, bloating, gas, and all my hard work would have been for nothing.
If it helps, you can write down your why and put it somewhere you can see it every day, like your bathroom mirror.
Now that you have your why, it’s time to move on to step 2!

Step 2: Eat A Whole Foods Diet
What is a whole foods diet, and how is it different from the animal based diet?
A whole-food diet involves eating real, whole foods found in nature. These are single-ingredient foods that do not contain any man-made ingredients.
That means no refined sugars, seed oils, dyes, or anything synthetic. You eat foods only found in nature.
A good rule of thumb is to stick to the perimeter of the grocery store. Don’t even bother with the middle of the store because it mostly contains packaged, processed goods.
The reason why you want to transition to a whole foods diet before going animal based is that it is a step in the right direction.
If you were to go from the standard American diet straight to animal based that would be a big jump.
Most people who do that will probably get discouraged and quit because it is too hard.
That is why slowly eliminating processed foods and transitioning to a whole foods diet is so helpful because you are slowly making a lifestyle change that you’ll want to stick to.
Once you’ve been eating a whole foods diet for a few weeks, you can evaluate how you feel.
You may feel amazing after doing this and not even need to go animal-based, which is awesome.
But if you’re like me and countless others, you’ll need to go a step further and go animal based.
I was eating a whole foods diet, and I felt no different from when I ate a standard American diet. I knew something was missing, and that’s where the animal based diet came into play.
It was the missing puzzle piece I was searching for for so long!
Step 3: Transition To The Animal Based Diet
After you have been eating a whole foods diet for a little while and feel comfortable eating real foods, you’re now ready to make the jump towards animal based!
The best way to start the animal based diet is to complete the 30 day animal based diet challenge.
You’ll want to sign up for the AB30 Challenge by Heart & Soil Supplements.
During this challenge, you will only eat meat, organs, dairy, fruit, eggs, and raw honey.
This is what I did, and it helped make my transition so much easier!
It’s also nice because signing up for this challenge keeps you accountable and motivated.
They email you with tips, tricks, recipes, and you’re part of a community of people who are doing this with you, so you won’t feel alone.
I highly recommend signing up. It helps make this process so much easier and fun!
Within the first two weeks of doing this challenge, I noticed I had more energy, my daily headaches were gone, my neck pain had disappeared, and my mood was lighter. It was incredible!
Once you notice all of the positive changes you feel from eating this diet, you will be hooked.

Helpful Tips To Thrive On The Animal Based Diet
1. Introduce Foods Back In Slowly
Once you’ve completed your AB30 challenge, you can decide if you want to introduce other foods into your diet.
This is totally optional. Some people do not do this, but others want to add more foods into their diets to see what else they can tolerate.
I recommend adding one new food every 3-4 days. Go slow and really pay attention to what your body is doing.
For example, when I introduced tomatoes and chocolate into my diet, my cystic acne came back, so I knew those foods were a no-go.
But I was able to introduce einkorn flour, onions, garlic, peppers, white rice, and potatoes successfully into my animal based diet.
It takes some trial and error to understand what foods work for you, so just give yourself grace.
Take your time, go slow, and really listen to your body when reintroducing foods.
And I’m not talking about introducing things like donuts and soda.
You still want to focus on real, whole foods found in nature.
Otherwise, all of your hard work to make this lifestyle change will be for nothing!
It is okay to live a little and have a cheat meal here and there if you want, but honestly, you might have no desire to do this.
Once you know how incredible it feels to eat animal based, you’re not going to want to eat those garbage foods anymore.
2. Make An Animal Based Diet Meal Plan
Meal planning is key to thriving on the animal based diet.
It helps you stay on track, and helps you feel less overwhelmed.
Write down all the meals you want for the week in your notes app, a journal, or pin recipes on Pinterest.
I like to write down my meals in my notes app and then I write down the ingredients I need underneath each meal, so it makes my shopping experience super easy!
