What Is Holistic Skin Health?
Holistic skin health is treating your skin with more than topical products. It’s about your whole body and lifestyle.
Of course, it is great to have a healthy topical skincare routine made with safe, non toxic ingredients. But holistic skin health goes deeper than that. It starts from the inside.
For example, what are you putting into you’re body? How are your hormones? Do you sleep well? Are you active? Do you get enough sunshine?
These factors and many more all add up to how healthy your skin is from a holistic point of view.
How Can I Achieve Healthy Skin Holistically?
As I said before, it starts with the inside. These are 5 tips I swear by so you can achieve healthy, glowing skin naturally:
1. Holistic Nutrition
One of the most important things you can do is be conscious of your diet. I recommend following the 80/20 rule, meaning eating healthy 80% of the time and 20% of the time eating whatever you want.
I used to try and eat healthy 100% of the time, but then I felt so restricted. Sometimes I want a cheeseburger and cookies… and that’s okay!
I also recommend limiting these things from your diet as much as possible:
- Vegetable oil
- Canola oil
- Soybean oil
- Sunflower oil
- Rapeseed oil
- Palm oil
- Non organic foods
- Artificial sweeteners
- Food dyes
- Refined sugars
Opt for these food options instead when you’re grocery shopping:
- Coconut oil
- Organic pasture-raised eggs
- Organic grass-fed beef
- Organic chicken (pasture-raised is best)
- Organic fruits and vegetables
- A2 milk from grass-fed cows
- Organic coconut sugar
- Raw honey
- 100% pure maple syrup
- Grass-fed butter
- Grass-fed ghee
- Beef tallow
2. Holistic Wellness
When it comes to wellness, there are endless practices you could do. If we were to do all of the wellness practices that people recommend, it would take up our whole day! So I’m going to give you some simple ones you can easily start doing today.
Get Your Vitamin D
Go outside and soak up the sun! Vitamin D is so important for the health of our bodies and skin. Our society is so deficient in this essential nutrient because we are indoors for most of the time.
Vitamin D is what our body makes from interacting with the sun. It is the best kind of vitamin D, not the store-bought kind. It’s best to get sunshine in the morning. It also helps set your circadian rhythm, improves mood, and encourages proper hormone production.

Move Your Body Daily
Our bodies are designed to move. We live in a society where we sit for most of the day, but this is extremely detrimental to our health. I would recommend incorporating at least 30 minutes of activity a day. You could go for morning walks which allow you to get exercise and vitamin D all at once!
The benefits of moving your body daily are endless. Movement is so powerful, so don’t underestimate this wellness habit.

Properly Hydrate Your Body
In America, most of us are chronically dehydrated (75% of us to be exact). Even if you drink a lot of water during the day, you may not be drinking the right kind of water. The water we drink needs to have minerals in it such as calcium, magnesium, and sodium. Without these minerals, we will never be properly hydrated.
The best way to ensure you’re drinking water with minerals is by drinking spring water or adding LMNT packets to your water. I personally drink LMNT every single day. When I don’t drink an LMNT packet I notice how dehydrated I am. My lips get chapped, I get a mid-day headache, and I feel fatigued. LMNT has so many delicious flavors to choose from, but my favorite has to be the grapefruit!

3. Holistic Skin Care
I know I said holistic skin health is more about what is happening inside our bodies, but our skincare routines do play a huge part in that. If you’re using toxic skin care products on your skin, that will affect your body.
A lot of mainstream skincare contain harmful ingredients that disrupt hormones, cause skin irritations, and are even carcinogenic.
I am constantly researching skincare products and reading labels when I’m learning about a skincare line. A good rule of thumb is if you can’t pronounce it, or it looks totally foreign, then it’s probably a no-go.
Botanical-based products are the best. My absolute favorite botanical-based skincare line is Living Libations. Their products are all organic and extremely high quality. Some of my favorite products are Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever, Seabuckthorn Lotion, and Ozonated Dew Dab.

4. Holistic Dental Care
Mainstream dental care is doing more harm than good. I made the switch to holistic dental care a couple years ago and have noticed significant improvements in my health. My gums no longer bleed or get inflamed, the inside of my mouth no longer peels, and my sensitivities are completely gone.
Our mouths are the gateway to our insides, so what affects our mouth affects our gut, which affects everything else. It’s all connected!

5. Holistic Healing
All of the things I listed above are great ways to heal your body holistically, but some things we cannot heal on our own. That is why it is important to seek out help from professionals. Holistic healing comes in many forms. Here are some ways we can heal our bodies holistically along with the help of holistic practitioners:
- Naturopathic Medicine
- Biological Dentistry
- Acupuncture
- Chiropractic
- Therapy
- Holistic Nutrition
- Herbalism
- Massage Therapy
