If you’re wondering, “Are facials beneficial?” keep reading because I’m about to spill all the secrets.
Lots of people wonder, “Are facials beneficial? Are facials worth it? Are facials good for your skin?” As a holistic esthetician, I’m here to answer all those questions for you.
These are my thoughts and opinions as someone who worked in spas and gave facials every day.
I know not every esthetician agrees with me (especially since I’m telling you not to give them your money haha), but I feel it is important for you to know the TRUTH behind facials and what’s ultimately going to give you that glowing healthy skin you think you can only get from going to a spa.
SPOILER ALERT: You can do it in the comfort of your own home.
But let’s rewind and I’ll give you some background so you can have a full understanding of whether facials are truly beneficial.
This post is all about answering the big question: Are facials beneficial?

A Little Background On Me
You’re probably wondering…
Who even is this girl and what does she know about giving facials?
I’m actually a licensed esthetician! I used to give facials in spas. That’s how I made a living. I liked it at the time, but looking back, I could never return to that life, especially with what I know now.
I love being a blogger, writing to all of you lovely people, and sharing my knowledge so you can improve your health in a natural, sustainable way. Hooray!
What Does A Facial Do?
If you’re not familiar with what a facial is, let me explain…
A facial is a skincare treatment usually given by an esthetician. It mainly consists of:
- Cleansing
- Exfoliation
- Extractions
- Massage
- Mask
- Serum
- Eye cream
- Moisturizer
This is a very basic example, but you get the idea.
A lot of facials include skincare tools that most people do not have access to at home. Here are some examples:
- LED light therapy
- Dermaplaning
- High frequency
- Microblading
- Nano-needling
- Microcurrent
- Microdermabrasion
Pretty fancy, right? But do these treatments actually do anything?
Honestly, yes!
HOWEVER, they are ultimately not what’s going to give you healthy, glowing skin.
What you do at home is 99% of the work. Facials are just a little bonus if you have that luxury, which a lot of people don’t.
If you can only afford to get a facial every few months, honestly, you’re better off not going at all.
But if facials are relaxing for you and you like getting them, that’s totally fine!!
If you love facials and you’re just doing them for the relaxation/enjoyment aspect, then keep getting them.
But if you’re doing them because you think they are going to give you that glowing, healthy skin you want so badly, that’s not going to happen.
How To Get Healthy Skin
Before I tell you what’s ultimately going to give you healthy skin, I want to share with you a little story of what made me realize facials are not the answer.
While I was working in spas, I would see my regular clients frequently. No matter how many times they came back to me, I always noticed their skin was not improving.
I would try to educate them on the importance of lifestyle and healthy habits, but most people come to the spa too relax, not to have someone yap in their ear for 90 minutes.
It was hard for me to get the point across that facials are maintenance, they’re not going to “take away the wrinkles” and make you “look 10 years younger.”
That’s going to come from the work you do at home.
Long story short, I started my blog because if I couldn’t effectively communicate to my clients in the treatment room, maybe I could do it online to people who are willing to listen and understand.
So that’s what I did and I have learned so much about health and wellness since then.
Now let’s get into how you can get that healthy glowing skin in the comfort of your own home!
These are the best tips that work for me and so many others out there so I know they will work for you too.
Non Toxic Living
Eliminate toxins from your world. This includes skincare, body care, haircare, oral care, and household. We are surrounded by toxins, and we can’t control them all, but we can control what we put on our bodies and use in our homes.
I have lots of posts going over non toxic living, so I’ll link them here for you to check out!
You can also head over to my Instagram and TikTok, where I give lots of non toxic living tips there as well.

Animal Based Lifestyle
In October of 2024, I transitioned to the animal based diet, and the way I thought about everything changed.
I’ve always been passionate about health, but the animal based lifestyle took it to a whole other level. It’s changed my world and now I can share it with all of you in hopes it changes your life for the better too!
Basically, it is eating and living more simply, like our ancestors did before seed oils, GMOs, blue light, and other modern creations that negatively impact our health.
Here is how you can live an animal based lifestyle starting today:
- Get outside every single day, even if it’s just 10 minutes.
- Move your body daily.
- Eat lots of meat, especially red meat.
- Avoid plant foods like vegetables, seeds, grains, and legumes if you have autoimmune issues or gut issues.
- Cut out seed oils, ultra processed foods, and alcohol.
- Get your carbs from fruit.
- Consume raw or A2 dairy if tolerable.
- Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
- Surround yourself with positivity. Don’t waste your time on people or things that bring you down.
- Try organ supplements. Heart and Soil is my favorite brand!
How Long Will It Take To Achieve Healthy Skin?
You might be wondering how long it will take before you notice a change in your skin. I know this is an annoying answer, but it depends because everyone is different.
It might take you a week, or it might take you a few months. It also depends on how consistent and strict you are with your lifestyle habits.
If you’ve been animal based and living non toxic for 3 months with zero improvement at all, you might want to see a naturopathic doctor to get checked for any underlying health issues that are not being addressed.
I know this may sound overwhelming, but I promise you it’s so empowering. You can take control of your health and feel the best you’ve ever felt. And when you feel amazing, you look amazing.
I get more compliments on my skin now than I ever did when I used to get regular facials and work in the spa industry. It’s because my internal health is radiating from the outside, and people can tell!
I hope this helps you on your healthy skincare journey. Please comment if you have any questions!
