Want to know the best way to achieve dry skin relief? These are the seven best tips that all dry skin sufferers should know about.

dry skin relief

It can be hard to find dry skin relief. Sometimes it may seem like no matter what you do, you’re skin can never stay moisturized!

As a holistic esthetician, I am going to be giving you the best dry skin relief tips so that you can have moisturized, glowing skin.

You are going to learn how to keep skin hydrated naturally, dry skin treatment at home, and more.

After learning about all of these tips for dry skin relief, you are going to feel comfortable in your own skin again.

This post is all about the best dry skin relief tips that everyone should know about.

1. Dry vs. Dehydrated

Is your skin dry or is it just dehydrated? There is a big difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin.

Dry skin means you are lacking sebum, which is oil that our skin naturally produces.

Dehydrated skin means you lack water, which means your skin does not have enough hydration.

It can be hard to tell the difference, and it’s definitely possible to be both dry and dehydrated.

Dehydrated Symptoms:

  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Lack of skin elasticity
  • Flaky
  • Dull
  • Itchy
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging skin

Dry Skin Symptoms:

  • Rough texture
  • Scaly
  • Itchy
  • Flaky
  • Irritated
  • Cracking

Sagging skin and wrinkles are a normal part of aging, but if you notice these things are more apparent when your skin is dehydrated, then that is a sign your skin needs more water.

A good way to combat dehydrated skin is to make sure you are hydrating yourself properly by putting electrolytes in your water. These are my favorite:

You also want to make sure you are not using humectants like glycerin on your skin. These can cause initial plumping and hydration, but ultimately dry out the skin cells.

The environment plays a huge role as well. If you live in a humid environment, your skin is naturally going to be more hydrated. If you live somewhere very cold and dry, your skin is going to have a harder time holding onto moisture.

Keeping a humidifier in your home can do wonders for keeping your skin hydrated.

I like to keep one in my bedroom and run it at night so I wake up with my skin feeling fresh and moisturized!

2. Oil Is Your Best Friend

If you are not cleansing and moisturizing with oils, you are missing out!

Cleansing your skin with a soapy, sudsy cleanser is not doing your dry skin any favors.

Oils help to balance the skin, whereas foamy cleansers made with surfactants and sulfates strip your skin.

The rose oil from Living Libations is my absolute favorite to cleanse and moisturize dry skin:

3. Don’t Wash Your Entire Body

I know some people may find this to be gross, but there is no need to be lathering your whole body in soap when you shower. You only need to be washing your armpits, groin, and feet. Unless you are getting visibly dirty every day, washing your entire body with soap is unnecessary and will lead to dryness.

I love this 2 in 1 shampoo and body wash from Living Libations. It smells so good and creates a nice lather without using any harsh, synthetic ingredients.

3. Exfoliate Regularly

It’s important to get all of that dry, dead skin off your face, so make sure you exfoliate 2-3 times a week consistently!

This is one of my fave exfoliants I recommend for any skin type. It’s so refreshing!

4. Consume More Fats

You want to make sure you are eating enough good, healthy fats. Butter, coconut oil, tallow, avocados, and 80/20 red beef are all great fatty foods to incorporate into your diet.

Nourishing your body with healthy fats from the inside will contribute to supple, moist skin on the outside.

5. Use A Shower Filter

Did you know that most unfiltered water is filled with fluoride, chlorine, heavy metals, and other chemicals? Showering in this water can cause irritation, dryness, and other skin damage.

The best thing to do is install a whole-house filtration system, but those of us who are on a budget or renting can opt for a shower filter.

I really like this one from Amazon. It’s so easy to install and the filter lasts about 6 months.

6. Massage

Massaging your skin with your hands or gua sha is great for dry skin.

Massage provides movement to the skin. When the skin is sluggish or stagnant, it’s going to be dull, dry, and rough in texture.

Massage helps to gently exfoliate the skin and get everything moving. It boosts circulation, drains lymph, and oxygenates the skin. All of this helps to relieve dryness.

7. Seek the Help of A Professional

If you are still struggling with dry skin after making all of these changes, it might be time to address what is going on internally.

You might have an iodine deficiency or some other internal issue causing your skin to be constantly dry.

I would suggest consulting with a holistic practitioner. Many excellent treatments such as acupuncture, herbology, homeopathy, and more can address internal imbalances causing dryness and provide you with relief.

I know dry skin is so frustrating and hard to deal with sometimes, so I hope these tips were helpful! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions:)

This post was all about dry skin relief.
