10 Best Acne Remedies To Clear Your Skin For Good

Want to know all the best acne remedies to treat acne? These are the best tips I recommend as a holistic esthetician.

acne remedies

I’m always looking for healthy acne remedies because despite being an esthetician, I struggle with acne too!

Acne is such a hard condition to treat. Sometimes you feel like you’re doing everything you can but it’s never enough. As someone who struggles with acne, I’m going to give you my top acne remedies to keep your acne at bay.

I still struggle with breakouts, but I’ve come a long way and it’s taken years of hard work, lots of learning, and patience! But I’m here to tell you it’s all worth it when you see those before and after photos.

This post is all about the best acne remedies for clear, glowing skin.

The Best Acne Remedies

1. Animal Based Diet

It’s time to throw out all the processed foods, seed oils, and refined sugar. Eating a whole foods diet filled with meat, dairy, eggs, and fruit is going to do wonders for your skin.

You can check out my complete animal based diet food list so that you know exactly what to eat and what to avoid.

I’ve been eating animal based for a couple months now and it’s life changing. You have to try it for yourself to understand just how incredible it is!

2. Light Therapy

Light therapy is often used in spas and dermatology to treat acne, pigmentation, and signs of aging. Blue light specifically kills acne-causing bacteria, which is why it is so effective at healing and preventing breakouts!

This LED light therapy mask by Dr. Dennis Gross contains 100 red light emitting diodes and 60 blue light emitting diodes to target acne and aging all at once!

When I used to treat clients in person I was always blown away by how incredible their skin looked after applying LED light therapy to their skin. LED light therapy is extremely effective so I know you will see great results with this mask.

3. Sunshine

Ever noticed how when you spend time in the sun your skin looks better? It’s clearer and healthier looking. There’s a reason for that!

The sun is like nature’s light therapy. It helps to soothe inflammation and clears blemishes.

We are meant to soak up the sun. It’s what our bodies are designed to do despite what we’re told by doctors, the media, and the government. Just take a look at your skin after you go outside. How does it look? How does it feel?

Use your intuition and common sense. Is it better to slap on chemical-filled sunscreens and avoid the sun like the plague? Or let your skin breathe and go outside in the fresh sunshine? You tell me what sounds more natural and better for our skin and bodies.

4. Moisturize Your Skin

Just because you have acne doesn’t mean you can skip out on moisturizer. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do!

Moisturizing your skin is going to help keep your skin in balance, so you will not overproduce oil.

This is one of my favorite moisturizers for oily/acneic skin because it is super lightweight and has incredible ingredients such as Vitamin C and calming floral essences.

5. High Frequency

High frequency is a great tool you can use to help clear your skin. I use my tool about twice a week to prevent and get rid of breakouts.

I have a whole post dedicated to high frequency that you can check out here!👇🏼

6. Try Clearstem

This ClearStem supplement is a holistic alternative to Accutane. It targets acne by addressing multiple root causes, like digestive and hormonal imbalances. It contains only natural ingredients, so you won’t experience any negative side effects, unlike Accutane.

The best part is that you start noticing a difference in just one week! It helped me a lot after I went off the birth control pill. It got rid of my painful cystic acne that would occur every month around my period.

7. Use A Silk Pillow Case

Silk pillowcases are more gentle on the skin and less absorbent than regular pillow cases. This is important so that your pillow is not absorbing all of your skincare at night!

Silk is also hypoallergenic and more breathable than other fabrics. I’ve had my silk pillowcase for many years and I love it. I notice when I use a normal pillow case my skin is dull, dry, and more prone to breakouts.

8. Cleanse Every Night

Cleansing is the most important step to do every night if you want to prevent and treat acne.

Cleansing your skin gets rid of the debris, pollution, and build-up that occurs during the day. If you don’t wash your skin every night and you’re prone to acne, you’re going to be more likely to develop breakouts.

The best way to cleanse your skin is by oil cleansing. It’s an excellent habit to get into every night. I go over exactly how to do this in my post here!👇🏼

9. Exfoliate Regularly

When you have acne your skin produces way more keratin than it should. This is known as hyperkeratosis and it causes pores to clog. Your skin cannot shed all of that dead skin off properly on its own, so adding an exfoliating treatment to your skincare routine is super helpful in preventing and treating acne!

This exfoliant by Tammy Fender is perfect for any skin type, even the most sensitive skin! It contains peppermint and rosemary, so it’s super refreshing and soothing on inflamed, acneic skin. It’s one of my favorites!

10. Read Atomic Habits

This may seem like a weird thing to recommend for acne but trust me. Reading this book will help you stick to these little habits you create to clear your skin.

So many times I would try a new acne hack and then give up because I didn’t see immediate progress.

This book helps you understand why you need to stick to the small habits because one day you will see them pay off.

I’ve stuck to many little habits over the years that have helped my skin tremendously such as oil cleansing, gua sha, facial reflexology, and so much more. They don’t make much difference right away but over time they have a big influence.

Summary

There are so many acne remedies you can do to prevent and heal your acne, but if your acne is persistent and will not go away despite all of these tips, then there’s a deeper issue.

You may have hormonal imbalances, food sensitivity, gut issues, etc. that need to be treated by a professional who can help you with your specific needs.

Here is a list of professionals to go to when you feel like what you’re doing at home just isn’t enough:

  • acupuncturist
  • herbalist
  • naturopathic doctor
  • holistic esthetician
  • holistic nutritionist

Have you tried any of these acne remedies? What did you think? Lemme know in the comments!
