Learning about what foods go on the animal based diet food list has been pretty mind-blowing. No vegetables?! That was a big shocker for me. When I first started the animal based diet, I was a little confused and overwhelmed about what foods I should be eating and which ones I should be avoiding.

This animal based food list is meant to help you know EXACTLY what to eat and what to skip, so that you don’t get confused and overwhelmed like I was!

This food list is based on Paul Saladino’s recommendations. He is a double board-certified MD and author of The Carnivore Code and The Carnivore Code Cookbook. He also has a podcast and instagram with over 2 million followers. Dr. Saladino is the go-to guy for all your animal based diet needs!

These foods below are ones that you want to avoid at all times or at least as much as possible. I personally believe in the 80/20 rule, so I’m not as extreme as Paul Saladino. I love my chocolate and I love to eat out every once in a while where they’re probably cooking with seed oils. And that’s okay! I believe if you’re eating clean 80% of the time then that’s amazing.

If you want to take Paul’s recommendations and completely cut these out of your diet then that’s awesome. I just know most us us may have a hard time following these guidelines 100% of the time, especially in these modern times.

Leafy Greens🚫

  • Lettuce

Other Vegetables🚫

  • Broccoli

Olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil are better options if you want to cook with an oil; however, you have to be careful where you’re buying from. Many companies cut these oils with canola, or other seed oils. I’ve switched to only cooking with grass fed butter and it makes all my food taste so much better and cook better too!

SAUSAGE GRAVY:

1lb pasture raised pork sausage 
2 cups A2 grassfed whole milk
2 tbsp einkorn flour
Pepper (optional)

Instructions:
1. Cook the sausage in a cast iron skillet on the stove.
2. Once it’s cooked through transfer to a plate.
3. Add the einkorn flour to the pan and whisk.
4. Slowly add milk and let it come to a low bowl, whisking continuously.
5. Once thickened, add the sausage back to the pan and season with pepper.
6. Serve on top of sourdough bread with a side of pasture raised eggs.
