Best Sustainable Household Products
1. Reusable Trash Bags
Trash bags are one of the most wasteful things. Every single day when taking out the trash and installing a new bag, I would think to myself “There’s gotta be a more sustainable way to do this.” So I hopped on Amazon and typed “reusable trash bag” and there they were! I bought these and I love them. They have large and small options so whatever size your trashcan is, you will find one that fits!
2. Reusable Mop Pad For Swiffer
I used to spend so much money on single-use Swiffer pads. It also created a ton of waste. I didn’t want to throw out my Swiffer and buy something different, so I researched online what I could use instead.
I found these reusable swiffer mop pads and they are perfect! All you do is spray your floors with your cleaner (I use Branch Basics multi purpose spray to clean my floors) and then use your Swiffer as normal. Just throw the pads in the wash when you’re done. It’s that simple!
3. Molly Suds
There are many non toxic cleaning products out there that just don’t get the job done. When I found Molly Suds I was so impressed by how well they cleaned my things! They have everything from laundry to dishes to hand soap. You will not be disappointed!
4. Reusable Ziploc Bags
The amount of Ziploc bags we all go through is kind of scary (and expensive.) With Stasher reusable silicone bags you never have to buy another plastic bag again! They are reusable, washable, microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and oven-safe up to 425 degrees. One Stasher bag replaces 260 single-use plastic bags a year. That’s incredible!
5. Bamboo Dish Brush With Replaceable Bristles
Growing up we would always use a sponge to wash dishes. I always thought that was nasty since they harbor so much bacteria. Then as I got older I realized it was also wasteful! Now I love using these dish brushes with replaceable bristles. They even come with a little holder to catch the water so your counter won’t be soaking wet.
6. Bidet Attachment
I live in America and I will never understand why bidets aren’t a normal thing here. They are life-changing! I know that sounds dramatic, but it’s true. Once you start using a bidet you will never go back. It saves so much water, it’s more sanitary, and it saves you money.
I like this one from Greenco because it is super easy to install and inexpensive. It’s also good if you rent an apartment like I do because you can easily take it off. It’s not permanent and won’t cause you any issues with the landlord.
7. Reusable Straws
There are a few different types of reusable straws: glass, stainless steel, and silicone. They’re all great it just depends on what you’re personal preference is.
8. Glass Storage Containers
Glass storage containers are non toxic, last longer than plastic containers, and are heat-safe. They’re perfect for storing leftovers, packing lunches, and heating your food in the oven or microwave.
9. Food Huggers
These food huggers provide an air tight seal to most common fruits and veggies. You can wash them and use them over and over so you never have to use plastic to wrap your produce again.
10. Reusable Paper Towels
Paper towels are one of the hardest things to stop using in my opinion, but once you do you save hundred of dollars a year and tons of waste. According to the EPA, paper towels contribute to 2% of the total waste in the United States which is equivalent to 3000 tons of paper towel wate a day.
These reusable paper towels come in super cute patterns and are made from 100% cotton. They stick together really well and roll up nicely. When you’re done with them, just throw them in the wash and they’re good as new!
